A thrilling day of the inaugural Carelon Secondary Schools Cup took place on Thursday which saw Colaist Mhichil CBS Sexton Street claim both wins in games against Mungret Community College and Villiers School at the Southside Youthspace Factory. The win confirms CBS as winners of conference B and will see them go on to play CBS A in the final of the competition. The finals day of the competition will see the following fixtures take place:
CBS A vs CBS B
Mungret Community College vs Crescent College Comprehensive (3rd place playoff)
Villers School vs Thomond Community College (5th place playoff)
The highlight of the day was a superb final over in the CBS vs MCC game, bowled by Mirhamza Ahmedzai in which MCC needed three runs to clinch victory. However, with Ahmedzai's fierce pace, he was able to manage dot ball after dot ball to keep his team in it as MCC fell just one run short. Nonetheless, there was some superb shots on display by all three teams with some promising talent on display.
A total of 54 different players have played in the competition to date, most of whom are playing competitive cricket for the first time. A big congratulations to CBS who will now play an 'in-house' final and a big thank you to all the volunteers for their huge efforts in making it all happen.
